Snakes in silver with precious stones

Calligraphy Snakes

This brooch was inspired by the sinuous calligraphy of a Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty master. It is a faithful representation of the way that his ink ran through its snakey curves all those years ago.
Sterling silver, hand-constructed by master-craftsmen who learned their trade in the 1940s and 1950s.
Those born in Snake years are reputed to be graceful and elegant and good investigators but also susceptible to jealousy.
The head is formed from a delicate cut freshwater pearl from the eastern shores of China turquoise/lapis lazuli from Afghanistan /or agate mined in China.
