Traditional
home distilling apparatus
Species protection requires also technologies for making endangered
plants useful. Through finding economic values for them they can become
domesticated and escape the fate of extinction.
Therefore, at TianZi we are also looking at the potential of plants
for making essential oils. To distill the essential oil, we are using
an age old distilling technology, which is produced by local people
with the best of all material: copper.
The essential oil distill is designed for home use or small scale industries
and is produced in different sizes. Please write to us if you are interested
in buying a traditional copper essential oil distilling plant.
Designing the distill to maximize space and ease of transport to the
places where essential oils can be extracted on site by simple to use
technology, made us revive old alchemist distilling technologies.
The final product: a distill fitting about 20 kg of material and additional
30 liters of water. The "waste line" on the hand made drum
indicates the lower space for water; above is an insert, which holds
the extractable products above the steam.

At the TianZi Biodiversity Centre, the stil is used to extract rare
essential oils from rainforest plants.
The distil is placed above a farmer's stove and heated with wood fire.
This ensures an easy to adapt technology for any remote village.
The distill marks TianZi's efforts to revive traditions and support
local skills and craftsmanship. The distill is available on sale. However,
we can only produce limited quantities per year. Please write to us
if you wish to purchase one of these unique and useful products.

The tropical mountain
forests of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China, are the home of thousands of
species with a potential to develop health and cosmetics products.
The TianZi Biodiversity Research & Development Centre is devoting its work to finding these species, researching their potential, farm them in forest-farming ecosystems, and find market outlets.
Traditional
and modern processing technologies are applied depending on crops and
quality requirements of the market.
