Colocasia gigantea Giant Taro A really giant species of Colocasia, which is used in the villages mainly to feed pigs, but also for human consumption. It is the stem of the leaf which is used. This species grows taller directly in relation to the quantity of fertilizer you add to its roots. It does not make a stem like the giant Alocasia species. It has runners, which are able to populate an area quite fast. The flowers are pollinated by a small beetle, which only lives in forest areas. ![]() The flowers of Colocasia gigantea are pollinated by a small beetle, which is restricted to the forest area. Hence, specimen outside the forest are not producing seeds. Farmers are using mainly the leaf stems as vegetable and as pig food.
