Steudnera colocaiaefolia Red Sail This species shares the same habitats with S. griffithi, and lives strongly shaded along small creeks in the mountain forests of Xishuangbanna. Its flowers are deep red and form an impressive contrast to the flowers of the "Golden Sail". It flowers in spring with 4 to 6 flowers per plant. The leaves are a bit more roundish and shorter than those of S. griffithi. Total height 60 - 80 cm. If planted together in one pot, both species make a great indoor pot plant. It prefers shade and can tolerate dark corners in the house. The leaves are perennial. ![]() The highly elegant flower of the "Red Sail" scent like overripe fruits and attract tiny fruit fly species for pollination while the spate is still closed. ![]() A beautiful leaf of Steudnera colocasiaefolia.
