This Alocasia species is our largest elephant ear Aroid and can produce a treelike stem of 2 meter and more. Its stem and veins are purple and its habitus and leafs are more elegant than the other giant varieties. The variety, which is markedly different from the usually green Alocasia odora, is under registration with UPOV.

It is used in local medicine as a very powerful herb for asthma and lung cancer. We have witnessed one case of cure of terminal lung cancer ourselves and can only highly recommend the plant.
The part used to cure asthma and lung cancer is the treelike stem. It is cut into a slice per day which is cooked together with a piece of fat pork to a soup. This soup needs to be taken 3 times a day.

Indoor architects who like to use it for decoration need to know that this species requires partial shading and also lots of water. Due to its large consumption of water it can be used for room climatisation to increase air humidity.

Note the dark blue colour of the stem of this giant leaf.

This plant needs shade and much water, and it makes a great garden plant under some old trees. The color of leaves and stems is slightly bluish. The fruits are eaten by birds which distribute the seeds.
